Hypochondria – a lesson from the Wilderness | Conclusion

Jesus endured all three temptations with the Word of God. The Word is truth – you cannot defeat God’s truth! Each time the devil left because he lost, but came back and tried again. This is why you will find the anxious and hypochondriacal thoughts don’t go away immediately- there is no way the enemy, or even the will of the flesh, will allow you to reach your God-given destiny without a fight! But that’s the thing – you have to fight.

Finally, in verse 11, “the devil left Him”. That’s because Jesus won! Let us recap why:

  • Jesus was alone but did not remain passive to the attack
  • Jesus never ignored Satan
  • Jesus never argued or rationalised with Satan
  • Jesus did not give in to believing a false or made up scenario
  • Jesus knew who He was- the Son of God. You are a son/daughter of the Most High!
  • Jesus told Satan to leave
  • Jesus used the only effective weapon against mental onslaught- God’s truth, not man’s wisdom. Not Google, or friends, or family (besides His Dad), not medical forums. No idols.

When Jesus used the Word of God in faith against the first temptation, it built Him up. Faith builds. Then He withstood the other temptations. You only have to take one little step a day. Don’t try bravely fight anxiety ALL in one day, it’s a big battle. If you can come against just one anxious thought with the Word of God per day, but the rest of the day was not so successful, that’s okay! That one step of faith will build in you more faith little by little until you can accomplish a lot more. Just take the decision that today you are going to tackle one anxious thing only. Ask God to fight the rest for you and relax in Him. Eat the elephant one bite at a time.

the devil left Him, and behold, angels came and ministered to Him” (Matt 4:11)
If you persevere, even a little, through a struggle and allow God to lead you through it, He will not forsake you. He promises to never leave us. Just because we can’t see Him does not mean He’s not there. He’s holding out His hand to you – you just have to take it. So if you stand on His Word, He will minister to you and meet your needs during that time.

That concludes the study on the Wilderness, I pray it has helped you!
